Gary James Paulsen was born on May 17, 1939(82 years old) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S. James was an American writer of young adult literature; best known for coming of age stories about the wilderness.

He is also the author of more than 200 books and has written more than 200 magazine articles and short stories, and several plays, all primarily for teenagers.

Gary won the Margaret Edwards Award from the American Library Association in 1997 for his lifetime contribution in writing for teenagers.

Sadly, Gary Paulsen died on October 13, 2021.

Reportedly, Gary lived with his wife, Ruth Paulsen La Luz, New Mexico. The couple also lived in relative poverty, as a way to remain humble.

Ruth Paulsen Career

As a child, Ruth was obsessed with art. She loved drawing and also painting constantly. She attended two years at Principia College studying the basics of art and graduated from the University of Colorado where she studied oil painting with Frank Sampson.

By living on a farm with her husband, Ruth’s life and art grew gradually mixed.

Eventually, her books were combined with paintings, sketches, and watercolors in galleries across the United States.

Also, Gary and Ruth spent some time and most of their holidays living on a houseboat in the Pacific Ocean. Ruth has an estimated net worth of around $2 million.
