Who is Ralph Tavares? Age, Wikipedia, Biography, Nationality, and Career.

Ralph Tavares was born on 10 December 1941 (age 79 years). He was a Cape-Verdean American R&B, Soul Singer, Vocalist, and also a music industry icon.

He was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island. However, his family would later move to New Bedford, Massachusetts.

Together with his brothers, Ralph came up with the American R&B, funk, and soul music group, Tavares. The Tavares started performing in 1959 as Chubby and the Turnpikes. This was when the youngest brother(Perry Lee) was nine years old.

Ralph however joined the group in 1965 after a short stint with the army.

The Names of the brothers are:

  • Ralph — Ralph Edward Vierra Tavares (b. December 10, 1941)
  • Pooch — Arthur Paul Tavares (b. November 12, 1942)
  • Chubby — Antone Lee Tavares (b. June 2, 1944)
  • Butch — Feliciano Vierra Tavares, Jr. (b. May 18, 1948)
  • Tiny — Perry Lee Tavares (b. October 23, 1949)

Bernie Worrell, a P-Funk keyboardist/architect briefly joined the group in 1968, while attending the New England Conservatory of Music.

The Tavares are best known for their hit single, Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel. The group has released more than 10 albums since they started producing music.

Ralph Tavares Falling Out

In 1984, Ralph stepped down from the group. Pooch took over as the non-commissioned business/booking agent for The Tavares from 1984 to 2014.

However, Tiny also left in the mid-1990s to pursue his solo career. The rest of the brothers continued to tour. Tiny rejoined the rest of the group in 2009.

Musician Feliciano  Tavares, the family’s patriarch and father of all members of Tavares, sadly passed away in 2008.

The Tavares was honored with “Lifetime Achievement Awards” by The National R&B Music Society Black Tie Gala. The event was in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 2013.

The whole group attended and also performed together for the very first time in 37 years. They went on to be inducted to the Rhode Island Hall of Fame in 2014.

Ralph Tavares death and Cause of Death

We are saddened by the news of Ralph’s passing away. Ralph passed away days before his 80th birthday. The cause of death is yet to be confirmed at this point.

Major speculations are however basing his death on the fact that he was quite old. The exact cause of death is currently unavailable but will be updated soon after the information is released.
