Kanye Omari West was born on June 8, 1977, is an American rapper, record producer, fashion designer, and politician. He has been influential in the 21st-century development of mainstream hip hop and popular music in general.
Born in Atlanta and raised in Chicago, West was first known as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s, producing singles for several mainstream artists. While pursuing a solo career as a rapper, West released his debut album The College Dropout in 2004 to critical and commercial success, and founded the record label GOOD Music. As a fashion designer, he has collaborated with Nike, Louis Vuitton, and A.P.C. on both clothing and footwear, and has most prominently resulted in the Yeezy collaboration with Adidas beginning in 2013.
He is the founder and head of the company DONDA which is a creative content company. The company is named after West’s mother, Donda West.
In general, West is one of the world’s best-selling music artists, with more than 20 million albums and 140 million singles sold worldwide.
POLITICS
In September 2012, West donated $1,000 to Barack Obama’s re-election campaign, and in August 2015 he donated $2,700 to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign. He also donated $15,000 to the Democratic National Committee in October 2014.
On July 15, 2020, official paperwork was filed with the Federal Election Commission for West, under the “BDY” Party affiliation amid claims that he was preparing to drop out of the Presidential race which he actually did run.
West held his first rally that weekend, on July 19.
Philanthropy
West, alongside his mother, founded the “Kanye West Foundation” in Chicago in 2003, tasked with a mission to battle dropout and illiteracy rates, while partnering with community organizations to provide underprivileged youth access to music education.
In January 2019, West donated $10 million towards the completion of the Roden Crater.
In June 2020, in wake of the killing of George Floyd, he donated $2 million between the family of Floyd and other victims of police brutality. He is also well as established a 529 plan to fully cover college tuition for Floyd’s daughter.

In April 2012, West began Kim Kardashian. West and Kardashian became engaged in October 2013 and married on May 24, 2014, in Italy. They have four children: North “Nori” West (born June 2013), Saint West (born December 2015), Chicago West (born January 2018) of a surrogate pregnancy, and Psalm West (born May 2019)also born of a surrogate pregnancy).
In January 2021, it was reported that the couple was discussing divorce, and on February 19, 2021, Kardashian officially filed for divorce.
