Spanish Rugby Player Kawa Leauma has passed away at the age of 32. Kawa has passed away following an accident on Saturday, December 18. He was admitted to a hospital in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The accident left him hospitalized and also in critical condition.
Spain’s Rugby Federation confirmed the news in a statement, saying: “From the Spanish Rugby Federation we regret to announce the death of Kawa Leauma which took place last night.”
“Kawa, AMPO Ordizia and XV del León player, last Saturday suffered a fortuitous accident after the match between Spain against the Netherlands in Amsterdam.”
“At the express wish of his wife, who is currently traveling to the Dutch capital, at the moment we cannot give more information and we ask for the utmost respect for her and her entire family.”
“Rest in peace, Kawa.”
Kawa Leauma Accident leading to Death. Cause of Death.
The Auckland, New Zealand-born player was rushed straight into hospital for surgery having fallen around 25 feet from the terrace of a shopping center in Leiden.
Kawa had undergone surgery to try to reduce the damage from the severe head injury caused by the fall. However, the last possible outcome to try and save his life was to put him in intensive care.
Ordizia Rugby Elkartea, the Spanish Basque Country-based side where Leauma played, had received news that after the first surgery, Kawa would require to undergo further surgery.
This was not the first time Kawa was reported to have severe head injuries. However the last fall, unfortunately, took his life.

Kawa leaves behind his lovely wife, sister, friends, and also family saddened by the news of his passing. His wife is based in New Amsterdam.
Tributes have poured in for the beloved star.
One of them is Marbella Rugby Club who wrote on social media. In the statement they released, they wrote, “Today, rugby is in mourning.”

“Rest in peace, Kawa Leauma, thank you for contributing so much.”
